The five levels
Levels describe how a plant's management system behaves day to day. The overall level follows the average answer, capped at one level above the weakest pillar.

Performance is managed from memory and from the last crisis. Losses are largely invisible and fixes rarely last.
Level 2Aware200–399The plant measures some losses and holds some routines, but data arrives late, methods vary and many actions stay open.
Level 3Structured400–599Definitions, routines and methods are written down and followed. The plant reacts within the shift and attacks its main losses every week.
Level 4Proactive600–799Losses are seen within the hour, problems are solved at the right level, and improvements are verified, standardised and sustained.
Level 5Excellent800–1000The whole system runs on trusted real-time data, frontline teams own their results, and good practices spread between lines and sites.
